Chop Chop!

Well it's that time again.  Time to chop off all my nails.  I refuse to file them and I suck at trimming them, so when they start to get too long (or if I break one) I get out my trusty old pair of big scissors and chop chop!

So today, I wore one of my all-time favorite polishes, OPI DS Extravagance, since it will be a few weeks before I can wear it again. I have a weird, I am sure totally unfounded, dislike of darker colors on my nails when they're short because it makes them look stubbier than they already look all chopped off.

So, when I got home, I set about trying to find the perfect polish for my Mannequin Hands. I narrowed it down to 4 out of the 10 or 12 that I have that *could* qualify.  Sally Hansen Cafe Au Lait, Sally Hansen Without a Stitch, Clarins 225 and Rescue Beauty Lounge Grunge.

First, a look at my nails, pre-chop and post-polish.  Suddenly it all becomes clear why I can't just leave them bare.

As you can see, it's NOT a shade of orangey/yellow that is complimentary AT ALL.  And yes, with very rare exceptions, I use a base coat!  Ugh.

I tried the four I mentioned and as I look at the photo now, I realize I probably made the wrong choice, but it's late and I'm not re-doing them tonight.

I can see now that Clarins 225 would probably have been the better, closest to mannequin hands, choice. But I chose RBL Grunge.

Okay, so it's time!  CHOP CHOP!!!

And Voila!

I'm probably going to try to dispel the no dark polishes on short nails notion for this growth period.  I'm probably going to fail.  But ya never know!

TTtttttttttttthat's all, Folks!

  1. You have the nail shape that looks good both long and short! I always think vivid colors look awesome on shorter nails.

  2. Thanks Peach! I'll probably give some color a shot this time, but I doubt I'll make it to a dark blue or anything. Maybe as they grow out. They grow fast.

  3. I'm so jealous! My nails look like M&M's when I chop them short. Your nails look awesome at any length. I would love to see them with Lincoln Park After Dark but I doubt that's going to happen.

  4. ROFL @ Saban! No - probably not. But I *might* work up enough brave for My Private Jet. =)

  5. You can always go for a color you're comfortable with and add a layer of Rock Coat to see how you feel as your nails get darker.

I like multi-dimensional colors of longer nails (holos, duochrome, etc.) because I think it shows the effect more.

But nerts! Your nails look awesome!

  7. Thanks! It's definitely my favorite of all the OPI Designer Series polishes. Other than my standard go-to polish (Rimmel Steel Grey or Chanel Particuliere) it's my favorite of all the polishes I own. Of course I don't own the China Glaze OMG series. If ever I own any of those, all bets are off on favorites!

  8. Whoa Nellie! When you chop, you really CHOP. Mine don't get quite as long as yours, but I usually wait until I knock off a big corner or something before I get the coarser glass file out and go to town. I rarely break one, but strangely enough, they will completely de-laminate (you can push them in like the pages of a phone book) if I hit them wrong so I'm afraid to clip them. I too think yours would look good short and bright although I'll have to keep reading to see if you tried and liked it or not. Have you ever checked out a blog called Short 'n Chic? http://shortnchic.blogspot.com/ Steph's look good short and vampy (even though I prefer mine longer like you).
