Thrifty Thursday! GREY and Petites Black Diamond (It's a Holo!)

Today's Thrifty Thursday post is a Wal-Mart special.

Greys are big this season, as you all know by now. I blogged about it early last month: Going Grey. And thankfully a few companies are actually putting out grey cremes. But there's still something to be said for some sparkle, too.  Creme is still my favorite finish, though, especially for greys.

So today's mani is Pure Ice Kiss Me Here with Petites Black Diamond as an accent. I don't really do pure black, but I am venturing closer and closer...Chanel Black Pearl, Color Club Revvvolution, etc. And Black Diamond falls in there somewhere. But I haven't done a full mani with it yet.  Baby steps, people, baby steps.

Here's Pure Ice Kiss Me Here, a medium grey creme. Good application for a "drug store polish" for sure - all of the polishes in the Pure Ice line that I've tried so far (about 25) have had good application.

I was swatching some of my greys and silvers when deciding which grey to wear...here's the swatch wheel:

Grey and Silver Swatch Wheel
1.  Sally Hansen Eel Skin
2.  60 Seconds by Rimmel Grey Matter
3.  OPI Skull and Glossbones
4.  Pure Ice Kiss Me Here
5.  NYC Sidewalkers
6.  Essence Movie Star
7.  NYC Scenestealer Grey
8.  Unforgettable Moments (Payless) Platinum
9.  Chanel Black Pearl
10. L'Oreal Raven's Strength
11. Petites Black Diamond
12. Color Club Revvvolution
13. Brash (Payless) Gun Metal
14. Nina Ultra Pro Smoke-N-Mirrors
15. Nfu-Oh #61
16. OPI DS Coronation
17. OPI DS Radiance
18. Milani Flashy Silver
19. Pure Ice Silver Mercedes
20. Revlon Metallic

That's when I noticed Petites Black Diamond. I hadn't ever even swatched it and had no idea it was a holo! It's not a linear holo like Revvvolution, but it's as close as you can get without actually being linear. You can see they're not dupes, but they're really much closer than I would have imagined!

I didn't have the time to re-do my mani, so I decided to do an accent nail. In fact, I've been cleaning today and I refuse to use rubber gloves because the smell of the latex makes me sick. So you get the beat up cuticles and all.  Sorry! And it's getting about that time again...chop chop! They're getting a little too long.

  2. You know I *almost* bought FQFYT the other day! But I figured I already had one too close and I've been ending up with a LOT of dupes lately because I don't pay attention. Now I wish I'd picked it up! If for nothing else than to compare...oh well. And congrats on your blog!

  4. Thanks! I still have a few more greys to swatch, but I'm pretty disorganized, so cataloging everything is going to be a chore for sure.

  5. You convinced me that I absolutely need Color Club Revvvolution (which I honestly like better than petites), I was trying to forget about that color, but now I am afraid that I will have to buy it.

  6. I have GOT to look for that Petites! So pretty. I have a bottle of Revvvolution, but mine is one of the "dud" bottles, it's barely holographic at all. I'll have to try to order it from somewhere else, to see if I can get the original. I'm a sucker for greys, and I do love that Pure Ice!
