Linear Holo Franken Topcoat - Spectraflair

Four reasons I added Spectraflair to my topcoat:

1) I thought it would be easier than to pick and choose which polishes to try and holo-up.

2) It's a little spendy and I didn't want to waste it.

3) As a topcoat, it doesn't seem to wash out/lighten the colors as much as adding it directly to the polish.

4) I can still use my polish "regular" or I can use the holo topcoat. Adding directly to the polish keeps me from using it normally again.

Does it work?

Yes! I think it actually works better as a topcoat - see reason 3 above.

Here, I've swatched five colors side-by-side with and without the spectraflair topcoat.

I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dry topcoat - about 2/3 of a bottle - and added two small bits/scoops (about the size of a grain of rice each) and two little ball bearings because topcoats usually don't have those.

And these were all taken in artificial light - indoors at night. I'll try and get a good sunlight photo tomorrow if the rain lets up. And I'm not really hoping for it to let up. It would need to rain for 40 days and 40 nights to get us over this drought!

Adding daylight photos (I can't really say sunlight photos because it decided not to come out today) - as always, you can click on photos to enlarge...

  1. Where do you get spectraflair? This is really cool. Would suit me perfect since I prefer buying cremes.

  2. It's just a powder, a very FINE powder (do not use in a room with a ceiling fan on, don't ask me how I know) and I got it from e-Bay seller annas.art.asylum and she was a pleasure to work with! I fashioned a lil scoop out of a plastic straw to use and I add a little at a time in the size of a grain of rice. But don't add too much or it actually reduces the linear holo effect.

  4. I wish I had done this with my SpectraFlair!! I had a little and I used it in SC Sugar, Sugar (amazing) and DS Coronation, it was meh. This would have been a much better use of it.
