I picked up seven of the new Spoiled nail polishes last night at CVS. It's Wet n Wild's newest line and I've had good experiences with most Wet n Wild polishes, so for $1.99 each, I figured they were worth a try.
Here's what I got.

Assorted Spoiled Polishes |
Since then, I was warned that their brushes, um...leave something to be desired? Yeah. The first one I tried was Kickin' the Habit (the berry creme, 2nd from the left above) and the brush was unbelievably BAD. It is one of the wide ones, which I actually like, but it was cut very badly and left a complete mess when I tried to apply the polish. I've been doing my own nails for over 30 years and at the risk of sounding cocky, I'm quite good at it and rarely ever need any cleanup. Thankfully, the rest of the brushes weren't as bad as that first one. I had to trim some stray strands from the brush on Your Fly's Open (the royal blue one) but all of them were still quite a pain to apply because of the brushes. Someone commented on my Facebook page that she'd contacted the company about the brushes and was under the impression that they are working to correct them. I hope so!
Now on to the swatches. Two coats with no top coat unless otherwise noted.
First is
Kickin' The Habit, which is what I call a berry color. It's a purple based fuchsia creme and took two coats. It was a bit on the thick side and if you'll notice my index finger, you can see the ridge down the middle. Application was poor. Which is a real shame because I think this color is GORGEOUS! It dried to a semi-dull finish (what I now call "rubber finish" because of Illamasqua) and would need a top coat.

Are Mermaid's Real? is a dusty purple with gold micro glitter - almost like a foil glitter. Application on this one was probably the best out of the seven I tried as far as formula and the brush wasn't nearly as bad.

I'm Ba-Roque is a taupy, bronzy-gold foil with tons of shimmer. I had a big puddling problem with this one. Application was problematic but the brush was about like it was with Are Mermaids Real - not cut well but not quite as bad as Kickin' the Habit's brush. Which just reinforces to me that the brushes are quite inconsistent and need to be fixed.

The only glitter I picked up was green (of course, what else?) and is called
Show Me the Money. It's green and gold small round glitter pieces in a clear base that almost seems oily. It felt like I was trying to dig the glitter out of oil and I had a bit of a difficult time, but once I had two coats on, it was fairly dense. I applied it over I'm Ba-Roque. I'm sure it would look much better over a green polish, but by the time I got to this one, with the brushes and all, I was pretty over it all.

After these, I had three left and decided to just do them all at once.
Club Rat is a raspberry red jelly with red micro glitter (and I think I spy a bit of baby blue or lavender glitter as well) and puddled worse than any of the rest of them. It's quite pretty and possibly worth it, especially if you're a jelly lover which I am not, IF they fix the brush problem. Shown on index and pinky fingers...

The Parking Meteor Expired is a blackened teal with teal micro glitter. Application was as good as Are Mermaids Real - the best of the bunch. I didn't have pooling or gloppiness, but still had an issue with the brush.

And finally,
Your Fly's Down is a royal blue shimmer. The final finish was a bit streaky, but the formula was okay for application. This is the one I had to trim stray strands from the brush. I've had to do that before, even on Dior, but Dior's wide brush is cut about a kajillion times better than these are.

All in all, I'd say I wouldn't try any more of these until they've addressed and remedied the brush problem. I tried several different finishes, so I would expect varied formulas, but these really did seem quite inconsistent.
With all of that said, I'm a huge fan of the formula of their new Megalast line. However, they have brush issues with those as well. The brushes in that line are even wider than Dior's wide brush and not cut well. They are, however, cut better than those in their Spoiled line.

I love your nails. They are plain gorgeous. I hope to find those polishes soon, I haven't seen them around my neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Just beware when you do find them that you're going to have a lot of clean up!
DeleteGreat review. This saved me some money. I havent seem them yey but at least I know now. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI'll keep checking to see if they ever improve their brushes, but I really don't expect it anytime soon. That must be a huge undertaking for a company. I'm hoping for their sake they sent out limited quantities and can revamp. I can't believe that they sent out any test products for input first. That's a shame.
DeleteI actually saw it in cvs today and picked 2 up forgetying about the brush thing but luckily mine was ok. I got cougar attack and thanks a latte. The cougar attack was giving me the eye. It is beautiful! One coat

Great job with what you had to work with!
ReplyDeleteI stopped by the Spoiled displays and have never really been compelled to buy one. However, after seeing Are Mermaids Real? I'm going to be on the hunt! Especially since that was the best formula/brush to work with!
ReplyDeleteIt really was the best formula of the ones I picked out. I have a feeling the brushes are all going to be hit and miss until they fix them though. Even the best brush was horrible. I sort of "clean as I go" with my thumb nail and didn't do any additional clean up.
DeleteJust saw these in CVS the other day, and I was tempted to get some, but I wanted to hear some reviews first. So, I'm glad I came here. And you picked some of the colors I was eyeballing. Really like the first three. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSo I just recently bought Did I Dye It Too Blonde? and I can not get it off my nails ! What did you use to remove the polish?

ReplyDeleteI don't have that one but when I have a hard to remove polish I use pure acetone.
