China Glaze Mahogany Magic and Foie Gras - Swatches and Review

Tonight I'm showing you the last two I bought from China Glaze's Capitol Colors Collection based on The Hunger Games:  Mahogany Magic and Foie Gras. (Check out my reviews and swatches on RivetingAgro, Stone Cold and Electrify and Harvest Moon as well!)

Mahogany Magic is a very rich, warm brown creme representing Panem's District 7, the Lumber District. The application was fine but a bit different from others in this collection so the trick is THIN coats and be careful not to overload your brush. Two coats for full opacity. I wasn't sure how this would do with my skin-tone, being yellow based, but I LOVE it! As usual, all photos show no top coat and no clean up.

And finally, Foie Gras...

Foie Gras is what I call one of "MY" colors! It's a taupe creme with purple undertones and reminds me a lot of some of my favorites like China Glaze Below Deck and Zoya Petra and falls smack in between those two - not quite as dark as Petra and not quite as light as Below Deck. It's lovely and application was perfect. Two coats for full opacity. I believe this one represents Panem's Livestock District, District 10.

I've had a few people ask me if it's similar to Mahogany Magic. The answer is NO. Not even close. I've left Mahogany Magic on my ring finger to show just how totally different they are.

Every time I put on a polish from this collection, I find myself saying "no, THIS one is my favorite!" I really can't decide which I like the most. Just because it's my favorite nail color, I'm probably going with Foie Gras. I'm just a sucker for that shade even though I probably have 30 similar ones by now. In my opinion, each one is different though!

I didn't (yet) pick up Dress Me Up, Fast Track, Hook and Line, Luxe and Lush or Smoke and Ashes from this collection, but I'm already second-guessing that decision on a couple of them.

What do you think of these two?  Which is your favorite of the whole collection?

  1. I didn't pick these up. They're not really my colors but they look great on you!

I think you'd like Dress Me Up. I grabbed that one. It's a beautiful neutral :) And you can't NOT get Luxe and Lush ;)

  2. These both look amazing on you Sheila. Foie Gras is already on my wishlist and after this post Mahogany Magic might make it there as well. ;-)

  4. You should post comparisons of Foie Gras, Petra and Below Deck. I would love to see how they compare :)

  6. Those are my least favourite from this collection. I'm not into brown colors, the only brownish i like is something between beide and light brown... Like coffe with milk ;) Those ones are way to dark for me. And I like Foie Gras much more than Mahogony...

  7. I actually got the whole collection and I'm so glad I did! And these 2 are definitely some of my favorites; I love these types of colors. The only one I've actually worn so far was Stone Cold and I absolutely loved it but the removal was a bit of a PITA. These are great colors on you.
