Julep Helena - Swatches and Review

I'm not a Julep Maven nor have I actually ordered from Julep except for the Valentine's Mystery Box a while back. I'd tried a few that I'd received in swaps or from blog sales and the ones I received in my Mystery Box. Some I thought were just horrid and others were pretty decent. I'm not a fan of the bottle design or the amount of polish you get for the price.

But with all that said, I KNEW I had to have Julep Helena. It's just so gorgeous that I figured even if it did have crappy application, I *might* be able to put up with it. So I was finally able to swap for it.

And I was surprised to find that application was good. It flowed smoothly and I was careful (because of previous experience with Julep's thinner polish pooling and puddling) not to get too much on the brush. Two coats will probably be enough for most, but my nails being really hard and a bit thick and quite stained, I used three. It dries to a semi-matte finish.

Photos are showing 3 coats of color - with and without top coat as indicated. It was a bit hard for me to capture the true color, but the last photo is color accurate.

What a GORGEOUS deep fuchsia color! And it complements my extremely pale (read vampirish) skin tone. But I think it's one of those rare colors that would complement any skin tone.

It's not the best formula, but it's the best I've encountered so far with Julep and I think the color is worth it on this one! Julep polishes are available at julep.com and retail for $14.00 for .27 ounces.

What do you think? Do you have it?

  1. This is one of my favorite Julep's and it looks awesome under CTD. :-) But man, it was a b*tch to photograph.

  2. Another one of my faves! I like Helena better as a pedi on me. It's true, how difficult this one is to photograph. I was actually surprised at the color when I received this in my Maven box. It's much more blue-purple than its pictures show.

  5. Pretty color, but I feel I have similar enough colors and wouldn't pay that much for such a small amount unless it was a color I felt was really unique and amazing.
