Chanel Autumn 2012 - Vertigo, Frenzy and Suspicious

Today I have the Chanel Autumn 2012 Trio to show you!

Chanel Autumn 2012 Trio

I waffled back and forth on these since I first saw the sneak peeks. I WANT them. Nah, they're not that different/special. But I NEED them! But I have other things so similar. Well, you can see which line of thought won out. Once I saw them in-store, I caved.

The names are Frenzy, Vertigo and Suspicious...sound familiar? Alfred Hitchcock movies!  Well sort of. Frenzy and Vertigo are the titles of Alfred Hitchcock movies and Suspicious almost is...the OCD in me would have much preferred they used Suspicion instead of Suspicious. Why, Chanel? WHY???

But on to the good stuff. First up, Vertigo - my favorite of the three. Vertigo is is a grey-based cool-toned brown with warm brown shimmer. This one is TRICKY though, so before you buy, be sure and understand what you're getting. I am going to show you photos of how this one looks about 90% of the time in most lighting AND how it looks under intense light (no flash, though, as usual) with the shimmer showing. Just know that the photos showing shimmer is NOT how this one is going to look on you most of the time. That said, I love BOTH distinctly different looks. The formula was perfection. Two coats, NO top coat!

First, this is her public, dark and sexy side...

And she starts to reveal a bit more...

And this is her intensely sexy, hidden side...

Next up is Suspicious. This one is a raspberry red creme. It reads red most of the time, unless you're in great lighting or she's right next to a true red and then her raspberry side comes out to play. Suspicious is a highly pigmented, opaque beauty...a red with some pink in her cheeks. Great formula, no issues. Two coats and NO top coat.

And finally, Frenzy. This was probably the one I was most excited about and turned out to be my least favorite. The coolness of this neutral is what attracted me and that part did not disappoint, but the formula was the worst of the three. It still isn't a bad formula, though, just a bit thicker and not self-leveling. With a little practice working with the temperamental formula, I will definitely wear it though. You will see from the photos though that I did have some application issues. I had bubbling on the middle finger and if you look closely, you can tell that it didn't self-level. I think the trick is going to be more patience than you need with the others and maybe using very thin coats. The cool tone is what really makes the color work for me though. It reminds me of silly putty. With soft indoor lighting, it can turn a bit warm. I've tried to show you how it looks in different lighting. Two coats, NO top coat.

  4. I would probably go for Vertigo if the shimmer were a bit more visible. The other 2 would loo questionable on me :/

  6. I love Vertigo! I love the darkness of it and I love the grey tone it has! The added bonus of the shimmer in the light is fatalistic too. Your review was so very thorough, which I appreciated considering I know nothing about Chanel! Thank you!

  7. I love Vertigo but I really do wish there was a bit more shimmer in it but I'll still probably get it.....

How does Frenzy compare to Skull and Glossbones?

Also, does my post not totally delete after I delete my comment? Weird.
