Thrifty Thursday! Starring Milani Orchidia (And a Cruelty-Free Announcement)

Hello! It's time for more thrifty polish love...this time with Milani Orchidia.

But first, the "announcement"...there's something I need to address with you. If you look at my Cruelty Free list very often, you might have noticed some recent changes. For quite some time, I've been hearing things about Revlon gearing up to sell in China (where all products sold there must meet their animal testing requirements) and a few of you have emailed and messaged me about it. And about Revlon buying Bari Cosmetics (who owns Pure Ice) and Sinful Colors.

As far as I know, neither Pure Ice nor Sinful Colors have changed their cruelty-free policies, however, I go by the parent company when determining what brands are CF. This is a choice I've made for myself and my blog and I understand that there are other cruelty-fee bloggers who only go by the subsidiaries. That's what works for them. It's a personal choice and I'm not under the illusion that what I do on my little blog is going to make one whit of difference, but it's the choice I've made for myself. I don't judge others for their personal choices in the matter.

I haven't decided if what I already have of these brands will be blogged (with a disclaimer) or not. But I won't be purchasing more. This seriously cuts into the "thrifty" or drugstore brands available to me locally. Pretty much leaves Milani and Wet n Wild. Thankfully I adore Milani (and listen up Milani - you better not sell out to a company that does animal testing on beauty products!) and I like some of the Wet n Wild lines, so Thrifty Thursday will be around at least for a while.

Okay, so on to the pretty polish!

Milani Orchidia is from their Spring 2012 line and I'm just getting around to wearing it. Shame on me! It's a great shimmery bright violet polish and the formula and application are great. It has a stunning silvery glass fleck that makes it so shimmery. No issues at all. Two coats and no top coat for the photos. Although next time I will use three light coats because I can see, now that I see the close-up photos, that my index finger has some spots that are more sheer. I couldn't tell it otherwise.

What do you think? These polishes are still available in most drugstores and retail for around $4.49. Also available on Milani's site.

  2. maybe it doesnt mean nothing to you , but I support you, I made my goal to buy and use cruelty free products, today i found a conditioner and last week a deodorant with the bunny logo. If sinfull colors is also in the bad list, I dont need them. It work on me I see in fron of me those poor animals suffering alive with chimicals. Dont need that on my concience. Keep the list so we, who care can be also informed

The shade of milani is pretty, but pastels look afwul on my skin color

  3. I've hopelessly unaware of which products are cruelty free or which parent companies continue to test on animals, but you make me want to put some effort in! I hate the idea of animal testing, especially for such no-essential products like cosmetics! Thankfully almost every indie brand is cruelty free these days and most of my polish is from indie brands.

  4. It means a LOT to me! ♥

I would post stuff about the sorts of testing that is done but I'm not strong enough - I can't take it because it hurts too much. There are things we can't avoid - necessities like medicine - but for unnecessary things like beauty products? I just can't. Not when there are cruelty-free alternatives.

    Thanks! ♥

  6. Maybe for thrifty Thursday you can review or swatch something else. Like a lip balm or wipes that take off your makeup or something of the sort. How sad that China requires animal testing. It must be awful for those trying to be cruelty free and what kind of nasty comments they get when they are vegan but using products tested on animals. People can be extremely rude when it comes to things like that.

  7. Milani is now my go to drug store brand. I didn't discover them until around Christmas. Isn't it ironic that a brand made in China (Wet n Wild) would cruelty free and ones sold there can not be. I didn't know about Sinful colors, thanks. I just bought one this month and really wanted Orange Cream, oh well.

  8. Also, I had to add, your blog does make a difference with those that buy cruelty free and those that don't. Some people see swatches on your blog and think....I have to have it! If they don't see those swatches they may not see them elsewhere if its not a polish that is highly raved about. Also, with getting the word out about the company some people will shy away from a color because you can most likely find a similar color from a CF company.

  9. Thanks for the great info! I've been neck deep in tax returns so I had no idea this was happening. What a bummer. I'm posting this on my Be Cruelty Free tab. Thanks again!

  10. It matters. I'm bummed about a couple on the do test list, but there are plenty of CF others to drown my sorrows in.
