Layla Velvet Effect Nail Art - 09 Sweet Dreams

I have a really quick post for you this evening. Just got home from a LONG weekend and I'm beat!

So this is either a love or hate thing - FURRY NAILS! I am sure that's not the correct name for them but you all call them that - admit it! <grin> It reminds me of the velvet posters my brother used to have when I was a kid.

I just knew I'd hate the furry nails but I didn't! They were super easy to apply and to remove and cute as can be. Are they for every day manicures? Probably not, but for an event or a night out or a conversation starter, they're great. I can see this product being best suited for nail art, but I did a full mani with it.

Layla Velvet Effect Nail Art is "flocking" that comes in a regular nail polish bottle (sans polish brush of course) and you sprinkle them over your wet nails, let them dry for a minute or two and brush off the excess with a cosmetic brush. I think they're supposed to come with a brush for this, but I didn't get one.

I have Sweet Dreams (No. 09), which is a very saturated royal blue shade. I used Dior Tuxedo as my base and as I did the 2nd coat of color on each nail, I generously sprinkled (like a salt shaker) the flocking on top. I used a folded sheet of paper under everything and when I was done I didn't have a mess and I was able to pour any excess (using a home made paper funnel out of a post-it note) back into the bottle. Although, there isn't really a lot of excess. It's not nearly as messy as I'd envisioned. And it doesn't stick to your fingers so there's no clean up!

And this was the result!

I'd figured I'd do a 4-finger swatch for you and be done with it but I ended up doing a full mani! Even after showering and doing dishes, it held up fine. It fluffs right back. The only problem I noticed is that this being a darker color, it picked up lint from my clothing and dog hair. Washing my hands took care of it though. And it feels nice. If you have any OCD at all, you'll be constantly rubbing your nails. Don't ask me how I know.

So what do you think? Is it something you've tried? Love it? Hate it? Willing to try it?

  2. I'm not sure what I think of the "Velvet" Effects. It looks really neat, but I feel it would get annoying and snag on clothing, or scratch skin.. but I have yet to try it. Your swatch is amazing!

  3. I like it! I am really surprised to hear it fluffs back up after handwashing and whatnot. I assumed it'd be ruined as soon as it got wet. Love the color too btw!

  4. I think it is weird! Haha. I am glad to hear it fluffs back up though, I envisioned pulling fluffies out of my hair after the shower or having little matted wet cats on my fingers. Not so sure I would try it though.

  5. I think I'm a hater on these! Not that I don't love your swatches lol! But as you pointed out, furry nails are hit or miss for most people! :p
