Dior Rouge #999 - Swatches and Review

Nothing to Disclose
*This product may not be Cruelty Free

Well I was pretty excited to be getting Dior Nuit 1947 #970 polish in my Sephora package today. But alas, they messed up and didn't send it. The only one of the 4 polishes Dior is promoting for their Fall 2013 Rouge Collection that is actually new. Well I think it's new and I think it's the only one of the four that isn't a re-promote.

So THIS is Dior Rouge #999...

I'll be showing you Dior Rouge #999 instead. This one is the old #999 Red Royalty/Rouge Altesse. But I can't be too sad because it is a gorgeous red creme. Nearly a one-coater. In fact, I'll show you one coat! Also I have a comparison at the end with a few other reds you may already have: Zoya Livingston, Chanel Dragon and Illamasqua Throb. So stay with me 'til the end!

Rouge 999 (Red Royalty 999) is a gorgeous red creme that, like Chanel Dragon, is hard to call as far as whether it's a blue-based red or an orange-based red. It looks different in different lighting as you can see in the photo above. It's probably the most "middle of the road" red shade that I have. No issues at all with formula or application.

Continued after the jump...

And now for that comparison I promised...

Red Comparison with Zoya Livingston, Chanel Dragon,
Dior Rouge 999 and Illamasqua Throb

None are what I would call EXACT dupes, but 3 of them are SOcloseyoucanbarelytell.

I used Zoya Livingston on the index, Chanel Dragon on the middle, Dior Rouge 999 on the ring and Illamasqua Throb on the pinkie. The Zoya needed 2 coats to match the opacity of the others and it's more of a crelly/creme than a straight creme.

Illamasqua Throb might have just a touch more blue in the base. The Chanel and the Dior are the closest of the bunch - as I said theyarethisclose - including finish, opacity, color. The color saturation might be just the slightest smidge deeper in the Dior. The Zoya is the least like the others.

------------------------------------------------------

So first of all, if you already have Dior Red Royalty/Rouge Altesse #999, you DO NOT need this one as they are the same.

Second, if you have Chanel Dragon or Illamasqua Throb, you probably don't need this one. Unless you're a collector or just red-crazed like me.

What do you think? Do you have any of these? Plan on grabbing this one?

Dior polishes are available at Dior counters nationwide, including Sephora, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, etc. and retail for $24 per bottle.

  2. So sad they messed up and sent you the wrong shade...hopefully they will make it right and send out the correct one. I have had that happen to me from Sephora and also from QVC & Keuring of late has messed up a lot on my orders.

  3. Illamasqua Throb is particularly pretty, but all are super glossy and pretty!
