Just Add Water! Marbleous Nails Review

*Products in this kit are Cruelty Free

If you're like me and find water marbling too difficult, I have a product for you. Tonight I'll be showing you a water marbling kit called Marbleous Nails, the brainchild of Veronica, a 13 year old super girl! Don't let her age fool you. Before I decided to review this product, I checked her out and believe me, this girl has it together better than most adults. If I'd had her brain power, go-get-'em attitude, organizational skills and pluck at 13, I'd own the world by now! And she may very well do that.

So what is this "kit?" Well if you're intimidated just by the thought of how difficult water marbling might be, I think you'll like this. It's taken all the work out of assembling everything you'll need. Well, except the water.

Continued after the jump...

First, the packaging. This wasn't just thrown together. Thought went into it! The box I received is the That's CRAY kit, but she will be offering other kits in the future with other colors.

This kit came with full-sized base coat and top coat as well as three bottles of nail color, tape, jar, instructions, toothpicks and Q-tips - and a super ball just for fun!

I received Kleancolor top coat, Nabi base coat and Nabi nail colors in Ace, Velvet I and Baby Blue.

She also included a few "helpful hints" in addition to full instructions.

  • Start with room temperature water. That's a must.
  • Apply base coat
  • Apply base color - I used the lightest one so the colors would show better
  • Tape up your fingers so you don't have a huge mess to clean up afterwards
  • Then you're ready to start your marble

Put drops into the water, alternating colors and making a "bullseye" - as you put in each drop, it will spread in the water, next drop goes in the center and so forth. Keep adding until you have a great bullseye. I was about 2/3rds done for this photo.

Use the toothpick to make designs in the polish, find a spot you like and dip your nail in, flat against the water. Keep your finger in the water and take the toothpick to gather the rest of the polish that will be dry enough by then - a film on the water - to cling to the toothpick so when you lift your finger out, the film doesn't cling to your design and ruin it.

Continue with each finger until you're finished, cut off or peel off the tape, use the Q-tips dipped in remover to finish the clean up and you're nearly done!

The only thing left is to let the design dry completely and then top coat. You can apply the top coat before it's completely dry, but be sure and let a drop touch the nail and spread lightly with the brush without touching the brush to the nail or you will smear your design.

Before I show you MY results, I just want to remind everyone that I am NOT good at water marbling. I've tried several times (if you want to look through my old posts) and it's my least successful "nail art." But she picked polishes that spread easily (which is the hardest for me) so that was already done for me!

And this is what I ended up with. I am sure if I practiced more at placing the nail just at the right spot in the design, I could learn to rock it!

So there you have it! My favorite part of the kit is the jar with the lid for your water. I can't tell you how many glasses I've stained up with polish and how many times I've had to refill my "marbling glass" - why didn't I think of that!

I also like that she has taken the guesswork out of finding polishes that spread nicely in the water. That's probably the hardest part of marbling for most people - finding which polishes work and which don't. Some don't spread at all and some aren't the right finish and just seem to disappear. These are all personally tested by Veronica.

What do you think? If you're not already a seasoned water marbler, I think this kit is a fantastic idea. Definitely perfect for beginners!

These kits retail for $22.50 and you can purchase at the Marbleous site here. You can also find out more about Veronica here and check out her blog here and Twitter here for more information.
