Chanel Rouge Coco #54 Le Baiser Lipstick

Nothing to Disclose
*This product may NOT be Cruelty Free

Venturing out into deep, scary water with this post because it's LIPSTICK! I rarely do lipstick posts, as you guys know. I've done a few but this is the first time I'm showing my own lips rather than arm swatches. But don't worry, this won't happen often.

Today I have Chanel Rouge Coco Le Baiser #54 from the Chanel Avant-Première de Chanel Spring 2013 Collection.

I'm one of those people who mixes high-end and thrifty. I love my Chanel polish, but as you see frequently, I love a good thrifty find too if the formula is good. Until now, I hadn't ventured into high-end with lipsticks. But today I have one of the shades from Chanel's Rouge Coco Hydrating Lipstick line: Le Baiser.

It's a creamy, smooth pink coral (described by Chanel as a "deep pink with golden shimmer") with gold shimmer.

At first I wasn't really impressed. It seemed lighter to me on the lips than it did on the back of my hand or inside of my forearm in the store. It also wasn't as opaque and heavy as I expected. And it smelled like "old lady." I'm not sure exactly what I mean by that. Maybe the scent is a rosy scent? (Anyone remember Rose Milk?) But I'd finally broken down and shelled out the $34 for a Chanel lipstick and dangit I was going to wear that puppy. The smell either faded or I got used to it and it did not give me a headache like some scents can. It also didn't taste funny. I'm really a freak about lipsticks that taste weird. (L'Oreal comes to mind.)

Turns out it was really hydrating, which is great for my middle-aged lips. And while it didn't SEEM very opaque it lasted nearly all day! Another plus (for the over 40 crowd out there) is that it did not feather out into my lip wrinkles! So by that night, I was sold.

And there's something oddly satisfying about the weight of the tube itself and the "click" when you put the cap back on. Not $34.00 worth of satisfying on its own, but combined with the smooth and creamy feel and the wear-time? Yes, I think so.

What do you think of this one? Chanel lipsticks in general? Do you spend $34 on a lipstick? I actually think I'll probably try more. Something I wouldn't have said last week. I mean, I spend $8 a pop for "thrifty drugstore brands" x10 just trying to find something acceptable. That's $80! So $34.00 doesn't seem too bad after all.  *grin*

Dior, you're next!

If you enjoyed this post, please take a second to "like" it! Thanks!

  1. Great review! I think the color looks very nice on you! I have a Chanel lipgloss (not usually gloss fan at ALL) that I shelled out the money for because I loved the color so much and I love it. I've had it for a while but I love the formula and can totally understand why it's the price it is.

  2. I usually avoid On The Lips posts because I hate lips photos. They always look so wet and... well... blahhh :(
But I did decide to collect myself and check your review, and you know what? I actually loved it!
I like the small, dry photo where your lips are not directly facing the camera, it makes them look good, it lets me see the color and it's not distracting me from the rest of the review.
You should do MORE of these! GREAT post!

  3. I totally agree with Jin Jit...love your post, and the angle for your lips is great! Might have to check these out at some point, because the thought of a moisturizing light lipstick sounds fab!

  4. NIce colour, and it is always nice to hear of lipstick that does not feather and that lasts without totally drying lips out. So thanks for posting your lips on your blog. :)
