Weekend Bits and Bobs: January 5, 2014 - Nails Inc., Literary Lacquers and Dirt Scented Perfume

Nothing to Disclose

Hola! I don't have much for you this time - it's been nuts at Chez Sheila, not even counting the holidays and the flu. Today, the cherry was placed on top of the crap sundae in the form of the switch on the water well going out AGAIN, meaning no water! Mid-flush, mid-laundry. Yes, the load of skivvies that I waited until the last minute to do. I thought I was going to have to go commando. Instead I went with the "holy" pair o' drawers. Oh c'mon, you know you ALL still have that one pair of undies with the holes shoved in the back of the dresser. Don't look at me like that!

So meet me after the jump for a cute mani and some dirt-scented perfume. Yes. I said dirt.

First, while we were replacing the switch on the water well, Twinks and Murphy had a visitor! This is Sadie! She's less than a year and a really sweet, smart, playful and highly energetic GSD.

I didn't think any dog could ever wear out Twinks, but she wore them both out and they're currently sacked out together on their doggie futon. She's going to have to come visit more often!

I received my order from Demeter Fragrance Library. There were a few more, but I've sent those on to new homes already. And they also sent a large bottle of massage oil in Snow. Very nice of them! I sent it on to a new home too - it smelled good but I'd never use it. These are what I kept...so far.

Pineapple is my favorite scent ever so I got a larger bottle of that. The others are just 1/2 oz cologne spray testers. To be honest, I'm not in love with them. I can't put my finger on it, but there's an underlying note common in all of them, even the pineapple, that isn't great - to my nose. I know very little about fragrances and I haven't made any real effort to find out much about them since I can't handle most of them without getting headaches. I wear Pink Sugar by Aquolina most of the time and it seems to be the only one that consistently never gives me a headache. Plus I've yet to meet a man who didn't love it. LOL!

So my favorites are Clover and Grass. Not because that underlying note of whatever isn't there, just because it "goes with" those two scents best. Generally fruity scents are safe for me and so far none of these have given me a headache, so that's good. But even the fruity ones have that same odd note. Overall, I was totally impressed with the range of scent selections and the customer service, even if I'm not thrilled with the scents...for me. And yes, I love the smell of dirt and this one smells just like dirt to me - the good dirt smell. But I can't see me actually wearing it.

Or maybe I'm just nuts because I'm so homesick I miss the smell of real dirt. LOL! Living in South Texas all I get is sand.

And the last bit (or is it a bob?) I've taken new photos of my nail polish stash. Last year it ended up being one of my most popular and re-pinned posts of the year so I figured it was time to update it. So that is coming up soon!

Hope you have a GREAT WEEK!

If you enjoyed this post, please take a second to "like" it! Thanks!

  1. Love the polishes!!

Sorry to hear it's been crazy and the problem with the well switch again, that has got to be annoying.

Hope this week is better. Waiting to see what is going in with our central Ohio weather...first it was going to a foot of snow, then half that, now an inch? But it's raining, so I expect an ice rink in the morning. They've already closed the city school system, and even OSU campus.

  2. hmm... I really need to go back and read your bits and bobs posts. They are so fun! and random! and I am in love with them!
even though I couldn't really understand why you would want to have a dirt-in-spray thing...

  4. Well, it's always a 'bob' for me since I'm married to one! lol

Liked reading about the fragrances. I use to be one that scents never bothered, but as I've gotten older certain ones really affect me.

Love the softness of Lowndes Square. Waltz really looks lovely over it.

**First comment deleted as for some reason some of my letters decided to vacate when I hit enter. And no, I'm not drinking! ;)

  5. Pink Sugar is my favorite perfume. I've been using it for the past 4 years and every time I try something new I always feel like "mehhh" and go back to it, lol. I have to agree I've never met any guys who didn't think it smelled awesome as well :D

  6. I'm fond of Demeter fragrances - but I prefer their sweet and spicy ones, like Cinnamon Bun, Caramel, Mulled Cider (my favourite for winter!), Esspresso, etc. Unfortunately I just can't stand their 'Dirt' smell, that's why all their "weather/ nature' fragrances - Snow, Thunderstorm, Icy Pond, etc. - are banned for me, since they all include this 'dirt' note.
