Weekend Bits and Bobs: March 16, 2014 - Power Tools, Purses for Charity and Potatoes!

Nothing to Disclose

I've been a busy little bee this weekend! I've cooked all sorts of comfort foods and pigged out. A big skillet of gool ol' greasy fried potatoes, homemade "red Lobster" cheddar bay biscuits...I even made beans and cornbread today and some homemade gingerbread.

And that's not all! I got a spurt of energy - Spring Fever maybe? So I decided to make another nail polish rack.

This is what I've been up to today. Still a work in progress, as you can see.

Continued after the jump...

I am killing two birds with one stone with the polish rack because I'm wear testing something for you and what better test than that! I'll have a post up tomorrow with the results and products.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aside from cooking, cleaning and building, I haven't had a lot of time for other stuff. But I did pick up a few things to try out. Hard Candy is one of the few cruelty-free "drugstore brands" out there these days since Revlon isn't CF anymore and they bought up errthang.

So I tried them out. The pencil isn't soft like, say, Urban Decay 24/7 liners, but it's okay. I didn't have the urge to dig up a lighter and warm the tip like back in the day. So for $3, it'll do.

The eye shadow primer is "okay" too. I honestly couldn't tell a lot of difference between this one and the Urban Decay Primer Potion. It seemed to soak into the lid more maybe and it lasted all day, but I didn't test it for like 18-20 hours though. I'm pretty sure after using the UD one that it would last 24.

But the Primer Perfecting, well I didn't love it. I was having a hard time figuring out how to describe it since, as you know, I'm not a pro beauty blogger and only do "makeup" in the Weekend Bits and Bobs posts. But after using wood putty on the rack I'm building, I had a Eureka! moment sort of. It's a little like "spackle!" By that I mean it doesn't soak into the skin at all and the more you rub, the more it sort of "flakes off." Like an eraser. Or wood putty that's starting to dry. And I supposed you wouldn't really want it to soak all the way into the skin, since you're trying to cover lines and pores. But I've tried the L'Oreal Miracle Blur stuff (not cruelty-free) and it works just as well without the "flaking off" problem. That's not saying that either of them worked well enough for me to spend the money on them again though. So that leaves me still searching for a cruelty-free replacement for Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch. Recommendations welcome!

The only other things I have for you are a few things I saw while perusing the April 2014 issue of In Style Magazine.

I thought this was interesting and I think I will actually go check these out. I love real leather bags, but these are cute and "vegan leather" (not sure when "faux leather" came to be called vegan leather LOL) and for a good cause. A cause you get to choose based on the color you purchase. Pretty cool. angelaroi.com

Your Duh of the day...

Just for the record, though...it's been my favorite color for a long time and I work it in everywhere. I tend not to wear a color because someone said I should. I'm stubborn like that.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And this one. Kinda feel like the survey-takers pick coral every year, don't they?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, now this might be really cool. But it's $10. I'm not sure whether it's $10 worth of cool or not. Still debating. I'm really not into apps and stuff. I don't think I've ever actually paid for an app before. But if I did, this one might be it. If any of you try it, let me know how it is and whether it's worth it and I'll do the same if I decide to get it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

And finally, a challenge!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For those of you who want it, here's the recipe for cheddar bay biscuits!

OH I nearly forgot! My favorite mani of the week is one I haven't published on the blog yet - I did it as a joke and I got so many comments on it!

My "Ruffle" Mani! LOL

Don't worry, I did a real "ruffle mani" that you'll see Thursday. But they're not my favorite type of mani so I just couldn't resist doing this one LOL!

Have a great week!

If you enjoyed this post, please take a second to "like" it! Thanks!
