Today I have the newest collection of Pixies from Zoya to show you. This is a trio of "Ultra PixieDust" which is like the first set of Pixies in that the polishes are all tone-on-tone, but also like the Magical Pixies in that they all have large hex glitters. Of course they are textures, like the others.

No issues with formula or application on any of these. I've used two coats on each one, waiting between coats so they would dry down to the perfect matte finish. However, Oswin is the only one of the three that actually appears as a true matte once dry. The other two or sort of a jelly matte. More of a "rubber" finish than true matte even though application and dry times were identical in my application of each.
Oswin is a classic, cool-toned red with tons of red micro-glitter and large red hex glitters and it dries down to a true matte finish.

Noir is a deep purple base full of red-purple micro-glitter and large red-purple hex glitters.

Arianna is a bit less opaque than the other two and it's a slightly more berry shade of red than Oswin. Berry-red micro-glitter and large berry-red hex glitters. I think this one probably could have used a 3rd coat for opacity, plus it would have deepened the color.

Sometimes it's really hard to see what's IN a polish after a few layers on the nail and since Oswin and Arianna are close in color, I'm showing you a "behind the scenes" photo. This is what I do sometimes to help me accurately describe a polish and/or the differences between polishes. When applied to a makeup sponge, the base is absorbed, unlike on the nail, leaving the glitters on top. I can just see it better that way. So here's my "sponge test" for the Ultra Pixies...
And I'm now not entirely sure that all three of them don't have the same glitters with just a different base. Of course the glitters settling into the base and some being covered by the base would alter the appearance of some of them. Pretty smart, Zoya!
So what do you think? Favorite? My favorite is Oswin of course. Not only because the name makes me think of Doctor Who (souffle anyone?) but because it does dry down nicely to a true matte.

ReplyDeleteI'm in love with the colours of the three of them, Oswin above all, but I honestly would have preferred them to be ordinary Pixie Dust...big glitters are definitely not my thing :(
