Colors by Llarowe: Doctor Who-Inspired Flakies Collection - Quick and Dirty Sneak Peek

Press Sample
*These products are Cruelty Free

Good evening. (Not sure why I always hear/say that in Alfred Hitchcock's voice, but I do.)

Tonight I have a "quick and dirty" sneak peek of the new Colors by Llarowe Doctor Who-Inspired Flakies Collection. By that, I mean one-finger swatches with one coat of each flakie polish over black, no top coat on any of them and no real review. I will be doing a full post with "real" swatches soon.

LAUNCHING DECEMBER 15th, 2014: Pre-Order
NOT Limited Edition

There are 16 Flakies, 1 creme (black for the perfect undies) and 1 jelly (oxblood red) for making flakie sandwiches!

Continued after the jump...

First, the non-flakies...

Vincent - plain black creme, opaque in one coat. One coat shown here.

K-9 - This one is a sheer jelly that starts as a berry shade and builds to a deep oxblood. Four coats.

I did a jelly stampwich with it! You can see what I mean by "berry" in the final stampwich photo - that is one coat atop the white stamping. Apologies for my poor stamping. And then the cheery on top is that I didn't wait long enough and smeared what stamping I had! LOL! I was going to do a flakie sandwich, but I couldn't decide which one to use!

Okay, now the flakies...

I did them in 4 sets.

As stated, I haven't done full swatches yet, but at first glance, I think my favorites are going to be: The Ood, Donna, The Master, Madame Vastra and Weeping Angels. Of course I'd have to have Mine is Nine and Ten is Tops just for the names. I still can't decide WHICH Doctor is "mine."

First thoughts? Emerging favorites?

These will be releasing at Llarowe as a pre-order on December 15, 2014. The will be re-stocked after that and are not limited edition - they will be part of the core collection! Follow Colors by Llarowe on Facebook and Llarowe on Facebook for details. You can also follow Colors by Llarowe on IG and LlaroweOfficial on IG for more sneak peeks from bloggers!

If you enjoyed this post, please take a second to "like" it! Thanks!

  6. the polish is pretty but i see no resemblance at all to doctor who. as a fan of the show i buy some polish cause it reminds me of the characters and honestly none of these even slightly remind me of people from the show :( not to sound too sceptical but it just feels as if this is a cash in with flakies ans the doctor who brand :( its sad to see this really it is cause some of these could have gown with the names...like the orange flakies being for donna and her red hair and the blue flakie with maybe a yellowish/orange flakie for vincent as he painted stary night......
this is not a dig at all to you pointless cafe please dont take offence but i hate it when brands try to take advantage of themes and crazes and dont put much thought into it.

    1. I completely agree with this comment! I was so fracking excited when I heard the collection was going to be Doctor Who themed. I don't understand this collection at all though. For example...why is Vincent a black creme? What the what? Also, minor quibble, but I feel like the polish name are really uninspired and boring. I don't know, maybe I'll get more excited when I see the rest of the collection or full manicure swatches but, as of now, I'll be passing on it all. Huge disappointment for a Doctor Who collection in my book.

    2. thats exactly what i thought. there is so many "sayings" that you could use and better combos using the flakies :( so sad

    3. I agree with this so much. I don't even watch Doctor Who, but I know bits and pieces enough to know that this collection just doesn't make any sense.

    4. This is very disappointing. It's clear from this "collection" that Llarowe is not a fan of the show. There is nothing here that even remotely looks relatable to Doctor Who. The fact she named a polish after the most annoying character of the series pretty much gives this away as a cash grab.

    5. Also, Llarowe is duping herself in the same collection. I think if she needs to start cutting her collections down to 6-8 polishes, because the dupes are getting ridiculous now.

    6. Yes, I agree with this. I want Ten is Tops just for the name alone, but I feel like there is no connection to the show or the characters via these polishes. I had no idea Leah Ann was a fan - I sort of suspect she isn't. I was super surprised to see a polish named after Mickey, lol.

    7. It also bugs me to see other mentions of the collection calling it "Dr. Who" inspired - bah that abbreviation!!! lol. But then again, that makes me a crazy crazy fandom fan, so I shouldn't get so hot and bothered, heh heh.

    8. Haha! I thought the same thing about people calling it Dr. Who...you can spot a non-fan a mile away when they say Dr. instead of Doctor. I always feel silly being annoyed by it but I just can't help it!

  7. Nine is definitely Mine. :)
I also like The Master. Er, the polish!

  8. Don't you think it would be appropriate to disclose that you work for Llarowe?

    1. I disclosed as I always do that these were sent for review. Just like with any other polishes that are sent for review. And I haven't actually reviewed them yet. I've always been honest in my reviews no matter if I buy the polish or if it was sent for review. That won't change. But thanks for your comment.

    2. But you actually work for her, don't you?

    3. Yeah, I was referring to the fact that you're a paid employee of Llarowe.

    4. I do. That's not a secret. There are several bloggers who work for indie makers. Those who know me trust that my reviews aren't biased. Bloggers live by reputation. With the plethora of sponsored posts, press samples, etc. if a blogger is going to skew a review, it's pretty obvious and people quit trusting them. Thankfully, my readers know I don't do that.

    5. It's no secret, but you don't go out of your way to make it clear either. I only found out by accident. How are your readers supposed to trust you to be honest if you don't tell them the whole truth?

As an employee of Llarowe, you have a vested interest in that company's success. That's why you have a moral (and possibly also legal) imperative to disclose this every time you review their polishes.

    6. I haven't done any "reviews" for anything by Colors by Llarowe since I started working for Llarowe. Only swatches.

  9. If this was the only brand that was ever reviewed or that ever had a positive review I wouldn't trust them. I've been reading this blog long enough to know better. I make my own descisions about what I buy anyways.
My question would be why are you so worried about it???

    1. Well, I just found out about this, and I'd say it's a pretty big conflict of interest. The average person hunting for swatches isn't going to know the person behind PC is a paid employee of Llarowe unless she discloses it in each post. The fact that she attempted to dodge the question when it was first asked here doesn't give me confidence in her reviews of this brand, and potentially discredits her reviews of other brands. Be honest from the start so people know. My two cents.

    2. Not only that. I work for a very large brewery. Because of this I do not comment on their social media, or 'review' them, or even mention the brands AT ALL without disclosing I work for them.

It's not that she hasn't done positive reviews of other brands, it's that she would most likely never do a negative review of whomever is paying her paycheque.

If I was running a beer blog, I would never ever post about my work, due to massive conflicts of interest and potential trouble at work as I don't work for the marketing and nothing I've posted has been checked by the legal department.

    3. Again, I haven't done any "reviews" for Colors by Llarowe polishes since I started working for Llarowe. Only swatches. And these polishes are press samples as are any of the other brands I review where I indicate "Press Samples"

    4. My two cents-I've been reading for a long time and was NOT aware that PC works for Llarowe, so it isn't "common knowledge". I'm not a blogger so maybe it's is well known in the blogging world clique, but certainly not for readers. I feel like calling something your employer gives you a "Press Sample" is...misleading at the least. To me trying to designate between "swatches" and "review" is really a bit of semantics trying to cover ones butt.
Sadly, finding this out has definitely left a bad taste with me.

  10. These all look gorgeous, and I can't explain how excited I am that they're NOT limited edition like every other good flakie polish out there! Can't wait for full swatches and review!

  11. Hi Sheila, I'm waiting to jump on the flakies bandwagon until I see a few more companies generate them -- I do like to compare and contrast brands, which is why I turn to the bloggers and their swatches. Yours are lovely, and thank you!

  12. Wow. So many flakes! They're all beautiful.
